First off, I'm spitting mad that I find out that Bennett got put back on CPAP when I called in at 10 a.m. to check on him. Apparently, last night after I left (around 1 am) he had several deep desats and apneas so they put him back on CPAP. Now, they don't have to call me in the middle of the night about it, but how about at like 7 or 8 am?? This is the kind of information a parent WANTS to know. Grrrr.
But it is clearly what he needed. He's been doing so well since going back on it, saturating in the high 90s on room air or just 23% oxygen. This is a HUGE improvement from needing 30%+ O2 yesterday. I'd been thinking for a few days that he needed to go back on the CPAP (as much as the step-back would disappoint me). I think he was just getting too tired having to work so hard on his own to saturate. That would also explain the sudden weight gain/loss issues. They said they'll probably keep him on a few days and take him back off and give him another shot on the cannula. I'm afraid this is going to turning into a volley ball game though. I wonder if it wouldn't be better for Bennett to let him stay on the CPAP another week to give his lungs a good amount of time to heal and grow and him to rest and gain weight and mature?? I will surely bring this up on Monday morning when his doctor rounds on him. I am trying really hard to trust the medical professionals and not be too questioning about things, but you know my personality - that is really hard to do.

awwww, i'm sorry. i hope this will allow him to take it easy and gain weight more rapidly until his lil lungs are a bit stronger. XOXO!
Girl, go ahead and ask as MANY questions as you want and need to! It does make sense that if Bennett is able to rest easier on the CPAP that he should be able to grow, mature, gain weight, etc. with more ease. Definitely find out if that is the case rather than have him on it, off it, on it, off it... that's your right to find out. I'm praying for him, and I hope Bennett is able to rest easier today!
