Small Victories!

Bennett turned 34 weeks yesterday! It was also the day he was "scheduled" to be born. I couldn't help but wonder how differently his course would be if he made it to 34 weeks, but its not helpful to speculate - just gotta keep looking forward.

We're making some small steps toward progress here. Thursday, Bennett gained 30 grams (thats just over an ounce)! Last night he lost 5 grams, but I'm not going to obsess over it. Now, if he loses again today, then I'll be flipping out again :) Right now, he's 3.5 lbs!

He also had his first physical therapy evaluation yesterday and passed with flying colors!!! In fact, the therapist told me was advanced for his gestational age. I was beaming! Ace always said Bennett would come out flexing and he was right! (Now, if only he coulda said he'd come out breathing...) ;) It was really neat to see all the things little B-boy could do! She held on to his hands and pulled him up to sitting position, and he was able to keep his head upright on his own. She also held him with his head facing opposite of me and had me talk to him, and he turned his head around to see me. That really made me feel special! He knows me :)

We also started nippling on Thursday. If I can actually get him awake, he doesn't do too shabby. Last night, he got latched on and got some milk and then proceeded to choke and gag on it! It will probably be a slow learning process ;) I think they said on Monday they will start giving him the bottle when I'm not there. We'll see how that goes.

There was some talk of moving him to an open air crib on Monday, but I am not sure that is the wisest move right now. I'd like to see him pick up a good pace of weight gain before they put the stress of regulating his body temperature on him.
