The past two days, Bennett's doctor has been trying to wean him off the nasal cannula. He's done pretty well actually. The highest he's needed is 60% (on 1/8 liter flow - barely anything), and he even spent an hour this morning at room air. His "average" is about 35% (again, with the 1/8 liter). I thought that was fabulous. Well, apparently it isn't good enough for his doc. Its all or nothing - room air or 100% O2. So, today he put him back on the "home setting" of 100% with 1/8 liter flow. He basically told me Bennett will be coming home with oxygen, end of story. I'm really disappointed by this. Bennett was doing SO well, maybe he just needs a little more time to wean down completely?? Now we're going to be stuck on the cannula for who knows how long, b/c once he comes home there is no weaning - its either on or off. Honestly, it breaks my heart how close he is to coming off it completely.
But, at least now we know what it will take to get him home. He has to have three days of taking 100% of his feeds by mouth and he'll be home. So, at least there is an end in sight.
On a positive note, he is getting huge! He's 5 lbs 12 oz now. I bet he'll be 6 lbs by the time he comes home! Can you believe it? Thats up from a puney 2 lbs 11 oz just 8 weeks ago!!! He'll be outgrowing his preemie clothes soon!

OMG Bennett is getting SO big!!! I can't believe that!!! I know it's hard news to take about the O2- it is frustrating that the doctor won't continue to wean him. This too shall pass though- God has a plan, and He's working it out! I am happy for you and Bennett overall- I can't wait to see him home!!!
awww, i'm sorry about the O2. it won't be forever and at least you'll have him at home and in your arms 24/7. so glad he'll be home soon!!!
what a big boy!
