A step back....

I guess with all the progress we'd been making lately, I should have expected a set back sooner or later.

Bennett's trial run off CPAP did not go well AT ALL. 'Nuff said. They are hoping he's just missing his diuretic that helps relieve fluid around his lungs, so they gave him a dose of a fast-acting diuretic and they are putting him back on his regular diuretic. He'll be on the CPAP for a few more days at least to see if that is his issue. We're certainly praying its just the diuretic that he needs, because the alternative isn't desirable. He's 36.5 weeks now, which is considered "old" for a preemie to still be in the NICU minus major health issues, so they really want to get him home soon. I can't say that I disagree. He's 6 weeks old today.

His labs today came back showing that he is still pretty anemic, but he is making red blood cells on his own, so no blood transfusion. They also showed that he is deficient in calcium, so they are giving him even MORE calcium to try and help that.

Poor guy just isn't having a great day today. I can tell he isn't feeling well, so we're trying to let him be. I will nurse him tonight if he looks up to it.

Hugs, honey. He's doing great, and so are you. It must be so hard having to "hang in there" all of the time. I guess it's like potty training--slow progress with a few setbacks along the way. That's a crude analogy, but you know...

I'm thinking of you tons and tons and sending up lots of prayers!

XOXOXOX
