After seven weeks in the hospital, I was discharged today. It is bittersweet. As great as it feels to be home with my family, I miss my little guy in the hospital so much. I think it will take me a while to really feel home again. Ace did a great job of keeping things together here, but there are the inevitable piles and signs of neglect that need to be taken care of. I'm still pretty sore, but hopefully soon, I can attack it!
Bennett is doing so well today!!! He looked really restful and peaceful while I was there. He's holding his weight steady at 2 lbs 14 oz. His bilirubin levels have gown down, so now he only has one phototherapy light.
And the BIG news of the day...Bennett had 1 ml of his very first real feeding! He seems to be tolerating it well. If he continues to do so, they will give him another 1 ml feeding (through his oral gavage tube going straight to his tummy) tonight! This is a huge first step!!!
The vent is still on a low setting with no O2 supplementation. He keeps trying to pull it out. I feel really anxious for him to go off the vent, even though I know its only there because he is still tired. I need to learn patience!

My delete--I used your last name in my reply and then wondered if I should have....
WONDERFUL news about the feeding!!! He is so incredible!
Going home must have been very bittersweet. I can't imagine how torn you must feel. And uh, you probably didn't get the little mail I sent you last Friday--I didn't think about how you might have Bennett and be discharged, etc so I sent it to the hospital! Whoops!!!
Anyhow, you're doing GREAT and I'm so proud of you and Ace. Way to go!!! Much love.
welcome home hunny! i can't wait until you're all reunited back at home!
